When it comes to jeans, it’s a style item that can completely transform your shape and boost your inner confidence levels. So when you find your perfect pair, it’s an ultimate style victory, especially as they are such an everyday wardrobe staple.
This season more than ever, the choice of denim styles are endless, from trend led to timeless and everything in between. However, it’s knowing what jean works for you and your figure, that ultimately makes dressing, so much easier.
I believe whatever our hangups, shape concerns or lifestyles, there is a perfect jean to suit everybody. So I wanted to put this to the test and style my 3 beautiful friends and introduce them to what I believe is their perfect pair.
When it comes to denim, Next as one of the high street leading brands offers an array of styles, sizes, leg lengths, and washes. Due to this, I approached Next to collaborate on this style challenge and to also offer you, the chance to get some first-hand reviews on their denim collection.
Anna, Becky, Nicola and I will share with you our shape concerns and whether I was successful in my jean choices for these gorgeous Mums. It was also the perfect opportunity for us to all get-together and play dress up.
The Straight Leg Jean
My days of squeezing into skinny jeans are over, well for now. I currently lack any waist definition due to my Mum tum, therefore I find that my usual high waisted styles, further emphasis my post-baby lumps and bumps. I love styling denim with my lightweight knits, they’ve become my everyday uniform, therefore my jeans have to work much harder for me.
Introducing The Straight Leg Jean, fashions new skinny and the must-have bloggers’ shape. The beauty of the straight leg, lies in the tapered leg, as it elongates my legs and offers a hint of ankle. This petite style also gives me the option to roll the hem, to further emphasize my legs and draw the eye away from my problem areas.
However, it’s the somewhat boyfriend fit of the waist that allows me to feel comfortable, without the restrictions my current skinny jeans give. I also love that these beauties feel super relaxed, so teamed with heels or a blazer, I still feel like me. & how fabulous are these Cone Heel Nude Shoes?
The Bootcut Jean
“I love the bootcut look, they are comfortable, especially the high waist.
They are also very flattering and I would never have styled them with a shirt like this”.
Anna at 5ft 11″ with legs for miles, can literally pull off any jean style. However, like us Mum’s, Anna has her Mum tum worries. With that in mind, I wanted to emphasize her Amazonian legs and give her some inner tummy confidence.
The Blue Enhancer Bootcut Jean of late has been pushed aside for its hippier wide leg, however, it still remains a classic due to its ‘suits everybody’ characteristics. They have a Jane Birken vibe which to me, is the only mood I would want to portray in my jeans. Styled here with a relaxed Casual Shirt and Anna’s signature red bob, Anna has transformed into a supermodel.
The extra tall length fits Anna to perfection and the dark indigo wash look smart, without the fussiness you get from black trousers. These jeans have the dualFX® technology by LYCRA® that promise to hold their shape and Anna, which is a bonus from a high street brand. The high waisted detail just skims Anna’s stomach, which allows her to feel confident tucking in her shirt.
The Skinny Jean
“I usually struggle with finding jeans, due to my body shape and height.
However these petite skinny jeans were perfect in length and I loved the high waisted detail.
The stretch fabric pulled me in where I needed it and I felt really confident wearing them.
I cannot wait to wear them with some heels and a nice top for a night out”
Becky has an incredible hourglass figure, beautifully curvy and petite in frame … oh and did I mention she has a tiny waist? To emphasize her toned figure, the Lift, Slim and Shape Skinny Jeans do just that.
The beauty of this high waisted style lies in the attention to detail of the band and where it sits on the waist. They don’t cut you off or try to squeeze everything in. They also have the dualFX® technology by LYCRA®, that promises to hold your shape for an amazingly comfortable fit that lasts. This also allowed for Becky to work her poses for the camera in 4″ heels, thank you lovely.
Becky would admit that she is not a fan of her thighs, therefore the darker wash indigo, keeps her look streamlined. Teamed with the petite leg length, they fit her figure to perfection. They also offer Becky the versatility of dressing them up in Nude Stud Heels, like here or dressing them down in trainers for the school run.
Having the confidence to tuck a simple vest into your jeans after having two kids is a testament to how flattering these skinny jeans are.
The Overbump Jean
“These jeans have been the nicest fit maternity jeans I have tried & I would never have thought to try Next.
They are comfortable and stylish and now a true staple in my maternity wardrobe.”
When it comes to dressing your bump, jeans are one of the styles you cannot cheat and, for that reason, they are one style worth the wardrobe extension. Nicola is pregnant with her 2nd baby and alongside raising her first born, she is also juggling her career.
Therefore her jeans need to adapt to different aspects of her lifestyle, whilst still being true to her own sense of style. A fundamental feature of a maternity jean, lies in the bump support, whether you opt for an underbump or overbump. You need to feel secure in the knowledge that your baby is secure and your shape is comfortable as you grow.
These Skinny Overbump Jeans are super slim, which gives a lean silhouette to emphasis Nicola’s beautiful bump and fabulous legs. Like Becky’s skinny jeans, they come in this season’s indigo denim colour, which is super flattering. Like all the outfits above, I’ve styled these jeans with a simple Maternity Vest and Nude Strappy Heels, to show you that worn with the simplest of looks, your jeans should showcase the best of you.
Alongside the jeans, I also wanted to show you that even with a bump, you can still rock Pregnancy Style. Therefore I added this chambray denim shirt to Nicola’s outift, showing you that even pregnant women, can rock double denim. This shirt would also equally look great worn over a jersey maxi dress.
I couldn’t have done this blog post without the help of my amazing Mum friends. It’s so hard to put yourself out there, but to do it amongst your girlfriends who support my Mummy Style vision is incredible. They also allowed me to pick their jeans and then they posed like professionals, giving up thier Sunday’s with family. Thank you ladies. Love you all.
Sometimes its not just a great fitting jean that gives us a confidence boost, especially to go in front of the camera. Therefore I wanted to thank my beautiful sister in law Gemma for doing our make-up. She transformed us into gorgeous women for the day and not just everyday Mum.
Then to capture us all whilst breast feeding her baby, I want to thank my best friend Julie. Julie picked up the camera and photographed us all in the best of lights. I owe you so much sweetie.
I also wanted to say thank you to the team at Camp & Furnace Liverpool for allowing us to use their studio space for our shoot. Camp & Furnace is an incredible venue for either dressing up your denims for an evening out, with thier extensive Events list. Or better still to banish your blues and dress up for your wedding or party Hire.
& Last but no ways least, thank you Next for collaborating with me on this blog post. This is not a paid for feature, however Next did provide the clothing. All thoughts are my own or that of the girls featured.
